Oblong 2° (568 x 750mm). Mounted on guards throughout, without title or text. 5 hand-coloured aquatint plates by J. Harris after Martens. (the first and fourth plates backed onto card, neat repair to the lower outer corner of the second plate.) 20th-century red half morocco gilt, green morocco label on upper cover bordered and lettered in gilt.
A FINE SERIES, RARELY FOUND COMPLETE. The plates are titled as follows: 1. 'The Conference at Block Drift, Kaffir Land - Jany. 30th. 1846: Between Lt. Governor Col. Hare and the Kaffir Chief Sandilla - before the commencement of Hostilities' (published 15 March 1852); 2. 'The Battle of Gwanga, Cape of Good Hope - June 8th. 1846' (published 1 September 1852); 3. 'The Capture of Fort Armstrong, Kaffir Land - Feby. 22nd. 1851.' (published 20 January 1852); 4. 'Attack of the Kaffirs on the Troops under the command of Lt. Col. Fordyce of the 74th. Highlanders, while forcing their way through the Kroomie Forest on the 8th. of September 1851' (published 1 November 1852); 5. 'South African Army...
