Georges L. C. F. D., Baron CUVIER (1769-1832). The Animal Kingdom of the Baron Cuvier, enlarged and adapted to the present state of zoological science. Illustrated after the original drawings of Audebert, Baraband [sic.], Cramer, [etc.]... Edinburgh, Glagow: [1835-]1839-1840. 7 original parts, 2° (362 x 240mm). Small format contents slip pasted onto the front pastedown of each part, small format 'notice to subscribers' at rear of final part, two volume titles and indices to each work. 110 hand-coloured engraved plates, after Jacques Barraband, etc. (Plates spotted and somewhat browned, occasional small marginal tears, two plates with larger tears affecting image area, stitching occasionally weak). Original green cloth-backed drab paper-covered boards, letterpress part titles on upper covers (some soiling or discolouration to covers, spines chipped, corners bumped).
THE RARE ISSUE IN PARTS. The present eight parts contain two separate works which were issued simultaneously. The plates should correctly be considered part of the second work and are drawn from a wide range of sources (as mentioned on the title) including the work of Audebert, Barraband, Cramer, Edwards, Huet, Oudart, T.R.
