ONE OF A LIMITED EDITION OF THIRTY COPIES. In producing this magnificently coloured work, Millais achieved his wish to offer his subscribers, 'some of the romantic scenes... a record of Nature unspoiled, so that other Travellers and Naturalists, like myself, may have something to look at in days to come, when all the "old" Africa, with its romance and wonderful mammalian life has disappeared forever, except in such Game Reserves as man may make in the future.' The images are reproductions of Millais's original drawings made on the spot during several expeditions to Africa.
