Lot Essay

Lt-Col. Charles Hosken France-Hayhurst was a nephew of James France and grandson of John Hosken Harper. Born in 1835 he served as a Captain in the 77th Regiment. He married twice, firstly to the daughter of Cudworth Halsted Poole of Marbury Hall, near Whitchurch and secondly to the sister of Otho Shaw of Arrowe Park, Birkenhead. He was later Hon. Colonel of the Cheshire regiment and died in 1914.
