AN EXQUISITE WHITE JADE CENSER, COVER AND SPINACH-GREEN JADE STAND
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY

Carved from a semi-translucent stone of even and pure white tone, the censer with a broad border of low relief confronted archaistic dragons divided by taotie masks in high relief and a pair of lion-mask handles suspending loose rings, with further borders of paired dragons around the splayed foot and again on the domed cover, the everted finial carved with lotus lappets above a similar band, all supported on a spinach-green jade openwork stand carved with a chrysanthemum flower roundel and feathery tendrils connecting the four bracket feet
