A PAIR OF SPINACH-GREEN JADE SCHOLAR'S SEALS
QING DYNASTY, 18TH/19TH CENTURY
Each seal of square cross-section, the upper surface carved in high relief to depict a fierce two-horned dragon amidst clouds, its head above a 'flaming pearl', crouched on four-clawed feet at each of the corners above a square platform, both seal chops carved in zhuwen, positive text, one bearing the four-character, Biyan jingliang, 'Desire for the brush and ink', and the other, Rensheng yile, 'For the pleasure in one's life', the stone of characteristic spinach-green tone with darker green striations
