Lot Essay
A pair of stirrups of similar form with the same type of cut roundel with geometric design is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They are of gilded bronze rather than steel and have elaborate enamel decoration. They have been dated to the beginning of the 16th century. (Digard, J-P. et.al.: Chevaux et cavaliers arabes, Exhibition cat. L'institut du monde arabe, Paris, 2002, no.100, p.146).
