A curious group of columns and other fragments from the Temple of Bigeh dedicated to Osiris, on one of the many small islands close to Philae. The clearly delineated arch in the background appears to be from a different era from the two columns, which have survived relatively intact in comparison with everything else. The strong shadows pick out the sharp edged forms of the broken fragments strewn over the ground and highlight the contrasting curves of the surviving architecture.
There is one other sixth-plate daguerreotype from the same location in the archive. It is a closer detail of one of the capitals from the columns.
