by Martin Laignier (fl. 1760-1766), marked, Paris, 1762/1763, with the charge and discharge marks of Jean-Jacques Prévost 1762-1768, later struck with two French import marks for gold 1864-1893
Rectangular box, the cover, sides and base engine-turned with a pattern of different types of guilloché including scalework, coin bands, scallops and radiating circles, within shaped triangles framed by wavy reeded bands

A very similar early guilloché specimen gold box by Jean-Marie Tiron, of 1760/1761, is illustrated in A. K. Snowman, Eighteenth Century Gold Boxes of Europe, London, 1966, pl. 314, later sold at Christie's Geneva, 14 May 1991, lot 22.
