Lot Essay

These landscape sketches were part of the artist's preliminary work for the commissioned portrait of Mrs. Robert Rankin and her daughters, Broughton Towers, Cumberland which was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1922 (no. 111).

This work will be included in Lorian Peralta-Ramos's forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the works of Sir Alfred Munnings.
