A WELL-PRESENTED BUILDER'S-STYLE MODEL OF THE NYASALAND RAILWAY CO. STEAMER M.V. ILALA, ORIGINALLY BUILT BY YARROW & CO., 1951
modelled by D. Whitty with mast, rigging, anchors with chains and winch, deck rails, bollards, companionways, covered hold hatch, cranes and derrick, superstructure with bridge with seachlight over, awning stannchions, top deck with benches, water barrels, funnel, ventilators, engine room lights, four covered lifeboats in davits and wood-capped deck rails, two lower accomodation decks and other details. The hull with planked wooden decks, boarding companionways, scuppers, portholes, bilge keels, twin propeller shafts on brackets with three-blade brass propellers and rudder, is finished in red, grey and white and mounted on two turned brass columns within wood-bound glazed display case with legend. Overall measurements -- 14 x 28in. (35.5 x 71cm.)
