Sir Arthur CONAN DOYLE. Autograph manuscript of his short story 'An Impression of the Regency', signed 'A. Conan Doyle', 8 pages, folio, written on rectos only, opening paragraph rewritten (in pencil) with other corrections in pen and pencil throughout the text, with alternative opening in another hand, 1 page, folio, annotated by printer '175-183', original staple.

This was a preliminary sketch for a Regency novel written in the mid 1890s when Conan Doyle steeped himself in details of the period before embarking on Rodney Stone (1896).

It was first published in August 1900 in Frank Leslie's Popular Magazine, New York, vol. 50, pp. 327-33 and in Universal Magazine, January 1901, vol. 2, pp. 250-56.
