DIARY

Sir Arthur CONAN DOYLE. 'The Automatic Self-Registering Diary for 1901', with autograph entries (approximately 112) for cricket fixtures, golf, dinners (Authors' Club, Sambourne, 8 Stafford Terrace American Banquet), meetings (Churchill, Gillette, Langman, Sir Henry Thompson), visit to Edinburgh, with some notes concerning the Boer War (the Bloemfontein epidemic) and resolutions (1. To go abroad, 2. To cultivate more friends), 105 x 70mm, housed in a leather binding, two visiting cards (engraved 'Dr. A. Conan Doyle ...') loosely inserted.

In late April (26-29) April Conan Doyle records a stay of four days at Cromer. Dickson Carr (p. 179) refers to a four-day visit to Cromer in March of that year which Conan Doyle made with his friend Bertram Fletcher Robinson. It was on that occasion that Robinson (the dedicatee of The Hound of the Baskerville) began talking of the legends of Dartmoor.
