Both signed Hizen kuni Tadayoshi, Edo Period (Early 19th century)
The blade honzukuri, iori-mune, torii-zori with chu-kissaki, konuka-hada, hamon chu-suguha of ko-nie, long and steep komaru-boshi, ubu nakago, file marks kiri slightly upwards slanting to the back of the tang, one hole with a kurijiri tip, the katana signature on ura and wakizashi signature on omote, 28 7/8in. (73.4cm.) and 17 5/8in. (44.8cm.)
Black lacquer daisho koshirae comprising: tsuka covered in white shark skin wrapped in black woven silk tapes forming a lozenge pattern; the fuchi-kashira with gilt and shakudo family crests of take ni kikyo [bellflower in bamboo] and hiashi [sunshine] on a shakudo nanako ground; gilt karashishi menuki; kozuka and kogai with gilt kurikara [dragons with swords] in high-relief on a shakudo nanako ground, associated; the iron tsuba pierced with leaves and gilt vines, signed Choshu ju Tomokata, 19th century, 40 9/16in.
