The characteristic leaf carving of the present fauteuils features on a pair of bergères attributed to Jean-Baptiste Lelarge, maître in 1775, sold from the collection of Saul Steinberg, Sotheby's New York, 26 May 2000, lot 145. Similarly-decorated examples include a set of six fauteuils by Jean-Baptiste Fromageau, maître in 1755, which was sold from the collection of M. Akkram Ojjeh, Sotheby's Monaco, 25 June 1979, and a set of four bergères by Adrien-Pierre Dupain, maître in 1772, which was sold at Sotheby's New York, 20 November 1993, lot 231.
