With serpentine channelled frame, the panelled toprail centred by flowers, the back, arms and seat covered in close-nailed gros point floral needlework, the apron carved with flowers, on eight cabriole legs, the cross-struts on the reverse inscribed with position, one leg spliced, restorations to the needlework

Lot Essay

The unusual use of fruitwood, accentuated sinuous shape of the toprail and the bold treatment of the foliate carving of this canapé, are typical of the oeuvre of the celebrated menuisier Pierre Nogaret, maître in Lyon in 1745.
