With nickel-finished jewelled lever movement, bimetallic compensation balance, engraved presentation inscription to the gold cuvette, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer minutes track, moon-style hands, large subsidiary seconds, the circular case with ribbed band, engine-turned front lid and hinged back, case numbered, dial and movement signed
55 mm. diam.

This watch is accompanied by a Jules Jurgensen Certificate of Origin dated 4 Feb. 1858, original Jules Jurgensen wooden presentation box with spare crystal and spring.

The inscription on the cuvette of this watch reads:

The President of the United States to Captain P.E. Westman of the Swedish Ship 'Thor', for his humane and generous Conduct towards the Captain, Crew & Passengers of the American Ship 'Helen'. 1858.
