An early 20th-Century 7¾-inch diameter French globe timepiece,
unsigned on the globe but stamped GES. GESCHUTZ REGISTRED DÉPOS on the back of the timepiece, the globe made up of twelve chromolithgraphed gores and two polar calottes, the equatorial and polar circles graduated in degrees, the meridian and ecliptic not marked, the oceans with ocean currents and unlabelled steamship routes, the continents with nation states delicately outlined or shaded in yellow, orange and green, showing towns, cities, rivers and railway lines, Europe shown as pre-WWI, the Congo labelled CONGO BELGE, shippping routes through the Panama Canal shown (mottling and some discolouration throughout) mounted in two brass colures and a stamped brass horizon ring graduated in hours 1-12 (x2) with quarter-hour subdivisions, with a steel meridian half-circle stamped 23, mounted via two gear-wheels on top of the tapering walnut-cased timepiece, with brushed steel dial, Arabic numerals, one-minute subdivisions and labelled every 5 minutes -- 41.5cm. (16 3/8in.) high
