A Meissen cup and saucer
CIRCA 1740, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK, GILDER'S H. TO BOTH, CUP WITH PRESSNUMMER 5 (?)
The cup with double-scroll gilt handle, painted by B.G. Häuer with a continuous scene with merchants on the banks of an estuary with a galleon by a cargo ship and small boats, the shore with merchants at discussion by a donkey carrying barrels, the foreground by the handle almost in silhouette with packages and barrels piled up by a tent, the interior richly gilt, the richly gilt saucer reserved at the centre with a circular estuary scene with merchants by packages and a large castle on a hill above, within a brown circle cartouche (slight wear to gilding of saucer rim, cup interior, rim and handle, small areas of cup rim and well of saucer refreshed, saucer with minute areas of wear)
