A Meissen teacup and saucer
CIRCA 1740, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARKS AND GILDER'S 7. TO BOTH, PRESSNUMMER 8 TO CUP
Painted in Schwarzlot by a hand very close to B.G. Häuer, the exterior of the cup with a continuous scene of figures at discussion on the banks of an estuary with small ships and a galleon, a village in the distance, the interior with a vignette of merchants by a boat within a double concentric black circle cartouche below a border of gilt interlocking scrolls and pendant husks by the rim, the saucer with a figure walking towards a dilapidated gatehouse by an estuary, within a similar cartouche and gilt border, the cup with gilt wishbone handle, gilt line rims to both (saucer with minute areas of wear to gatehouse)
