CIRCA 1795, UNDERGLAZE BLUE NAST. GILT SCRIPT à Paris MARK TO ONE, BLACK SCRIPT nast, TO OTHER
The first finely painted with six specimen moths between the points of a central gilt foliate star, the well with gilt chequered ornament between gilt bands, the border gilt with anthemion dividing six blue-ground joined gilt arched and columned niches gilt with putti, gilt band rim (some wear to gilt well, further areas of minute wear); the second finely painted to simulate specimen stones, the centre with a black medallion gilt with scattered crescents, stars and dots and reserved at the centre with simulated stone flowerhead gilt with anthemion, the well edged with a scalloped gilt line border tipped with hearts, the border with six triangular panels gilt with wreaths and flaming torches alternating with six panels gilt with winged griffins (minute wear to gilt band rim)

Lot Essay

The underglaze blue mark is not recorded by Régine de Plinval, Paris Porcelain 1770-1850 (London, 1972), but probably dates from the first ten years of the factory.
