The case on foliate cast brass bracket feet, glazed sides flanked by Corinthian-capped and brass lined quarter columns, the elaborate inverted belltop with brass beading and pineapple finials, the dial signed Daye Barker LONDON on a shaped silvered sector within the matted centre with calendar aperture and conforming florally painted arched aperture below, silvered Roman and Arabic chatper ring with half hour markers and well made blued steel hands, urn-and-eagle gilt-metal lower spandrels, the upper foliate spandrels centred by subsidiary silvered rings intersecting the chapter ring painted in their centres with summer flowers, one dial for strike/not strike the other chime/not chime with blued steel hands, the arch painted with an elaborate automaton workshop scene depicting a stonemason with automaton hammer arm sculpting an urn, another depicting a boy with automaton arm sawing a plank of wood, a lady pumping water into a jug and another operating a tredle stone and sharpening an axe blade, the silvered arch above engraved with twelve tunes with blued steel tune adjustment hand, the massive eight pillar triple gut fusee movement with original verge escapement, the music playing on 16 bells via 31 hammers and 13 in. long transverse-mounted pin barrel and with hour strike on a further bell secured to the plain backplate with pendulum holdfast
