The case in the form of an Ionic pilaster with carved gadrooning to the plinth mouldings, fluted mahogany trunk door supporting the Ionic capital, the drum-shaped hood fronted with a serpent carved bezel to the circular silvered regulator dial signed Reid London with delicate blued steel hands and observatory markings to the seconds ring, the substantial movement with thick brass deep shouldered plates and six robust front pinned pillars, the high count train with six crossings and Graham-type deadbeat escapement with jewelled pallets, fine beat adjustment above the crutch before the steel rod pendulum with mercury glass jar compensation
