The case with rectangular trunk door with oval lenticle (later frame), the formerly rising hood with twist columns and pierced walnut sound frets above, now cut with a front door, the later plinth with narrow skirting, the 10 in. sq. dial signed Tho: Stubbs London Fecit on the brass Roman and Arabic chapter ring with pierced blued steel hour hand and serpentine minute hand, the matting with rosette engraved centre, ringed winding holes, decorated calendar aperture and seconds ring below XII, foliate winged cherub spandrels, the five ringed pillar movement with anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike on a later bell above

Thomas Stubbs is recorded as 'A Great Clockmaker' when he was made a Freeman of the Clockmakers' Company in April 1685. Very little of his work appears to have survived despite the fact that he is recorded as dying in 1738.
