A Victorian engraved gilt-brass desk timepiece, third quarter 19th century
The cartouche-shaped case in the style of Thomas Cole, engraved overall with leafy scrolls against a line-engraved ground, on waisted column above a stepped base with sprung swivel support, the rear with shuttered winding holes and engraved with conjoined horses, the silvered dial similarly engraved with foliate scrolls and with plain Roman chapter ring, blued steel Cole style fleur-de-lis hands, the eight day single barrel movement with gilt platform to the plain steel three arm balance with lever escapement, numbered 2649 on the backplate -- 5½in. (14cm.) high
