A George III oak longcase clock
The hood with swan neck pediment with dentil mouldings and carved rosette caps, blind fret panelling below, with outset brass-capped columns and conforming pilasters to the rear slats, Greek key mouldings above scrollwork blind fret panelling to the top of the trunk, with reeded three-quarter length half columns flanking an arched and cross-banded door, the plinth with canted angles and on bracket feet, the 12in. square cut-away brass dial with bird and urn spandrels, silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with elaborate fleur-de-lys half hour markers, signed GC/UL, the plain centre with penny moonphase with age of moon indication, ringed winding holes and arched date aperture, the eight day movement with four ringed pillars, anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike on bell; possibly Irish, case possibly associated to dial and movement, second half 18th century -- 89½in. (227cm.) high
