A gentleman's elaborate dress coat of red wool broad cloth, front opening with high neckline fastening with buttons from collar to waist, the full skirt with three deep pleats to each side and open lower back seam, the deep cuffs reversing to ivory satin, richly embroidered to front opening, cuffs, pleats and pockets in gilt thread and embellished with gilt sequins, with elaborate scrolling feathers against a border of quadruple zig-zag bands, the inner cuffs similarly worked, lined with ivory satin, the skirt interlined with horsehair padding, moth damage, tarnishing, damages to lining; and a matching sleeved waistcoat of ivory satin, with similarly worked borders and scattered with feather motifs, lined with white plush mohair, tarnishing, tears to underarms, probably French, circa 1730
