The Arch of Constantine was built in 315AD to commemorate the victory of Constantine's army over that of Maxentius. It is also the most recent of Rome's remaining three Imperial arches. Samuel Prout toured Europe extensively after becoming a member of the Oil and Watercolour Society in 1819, and visited Italy for the first time in 1824.
