The South Polar Times. London: Smith, Elder & Co., 1907-1914. 3 volumes, 4° (275 x 210mm). Titles in red and black (vols. I-II), text and title in ochre and blue (vol. III), plates and illustrations, some chromolithographic, after Herbert Ponting, Edward Wilson and others. (Occasional very light spotting to first or last few leaves, some leaves detached as usual.) Original blue cloth, spines lettered in gilt, the upper covers with gilt lettering and rope-work surrounding centrally-placed inset pictorial cloth panels, g.e. (occasional light discolouration to cloth), each volume within modern cloth box. Provenance: Volumes I & II: Hannah Scott (presentation inscription to half-title of vol. I: 'To my dearest mother/with best love/Robert Scott/Oct. 1907). Volume III: partially erased inscription, dated December 1916; Col. A.S. Turnham (inscription noting his presentation of the volume to:) The Cavalry Club (large bookplate).
A VERY FINE SET: THE FIRST TWO VOLUMES WITH AN IMPORTANT PROVENANCE. Volumes I and II are both from the limited edition of 250 copies, these copies numbered 3, with volume I inscribed by Scott to his mother.
