A Black-Lacquer Suit of Armor (Tosei Gusoku)

The black-lacquer armor laced in dark blue, all parts except the cuirass constructed of ita-zane, the head of each plate rounded in goishi style, laced in sugake (vertical lacing); the suit comprising a twenty-four plate black-lacquered helmet with standing rivets, overlaid with decorative plates in gilt-copper, engraved with scrolling clouds and fitted with a five-stage gilt-copper tehen kanamono (decorative ring), the peak and fukikaeshi (turnbacks) partly covered with stenciled leather and applied with gilt-metal family crests, matching four-lame manju-style ita shikoro (neckguard), black-lacquer ressei mask applied with a white moustache and a four-lame throat defence; a pair of gyoyo sleeve guards decorated with gilt Chinese lions; the cuirass iyo-zane (scales with little overlap) in five sections with four-lame kusazuri in eight sections; multiple splint sleeves and shin guards; matching hodo haidate (thigh guards with extra pendant pieces) attached to a pair of long trousers, the main section with kawara-style scales (in s-shape) and the pendant pieces similar to those on the cuirass; with a saihai (taselled baton), an extra iyo-haidate and two armor boxes
