NORTH EAST IRAN, 13TH CENTURY
Of hemispherical form with spreading foot, the exterior with a broad band of scrolling silver inlaid vine around a continuous naskh benedictory inscription, a band of silver inlaid rosettes below, the foot with a band of meandering leafy vine, the interior plain, very slight surface oxidation in a couple of places
7 1/8in. (18.1cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

The inscription, allowing for a few incorrectly formed letters, reads:
al-'izz wa al-iqbal wa al-dawla wa al-salama wa al-sa'ada wa al-shafa'a wa al-shamila wa al-shukr wa al-ni'ma wa wa al-'afiya wa al-baqa (Glory and Prosperity and Wealth and Well-being and Intercession (of the prophet) and Complete and Gratitude and Grave (of God) and and Health and Long-life)
