Two illuminated letters on paper, one from Nasir al-Din Shah with black script in clouds reserved over gold ground, with polychrome floral ornament and with polychrome rules and margin with gold floral arabesque within red rules, slightly rubbed; one from Muzaffar al-Din Shah with black script in clouds over gold ground, with seal in illuminated panel, within pink rules, borders with gold arabesque, within frame with polychrome flowers over blue and gold ground, both framed and glazed

Lot Essay

Letter from Nasir al-Din Shah to his mother, inquiring about her health while she is on a journey. Letter from Muzaffar al-Din Shah, written in St. Petersburg on 24 Rabi' al-Awal 1318 (22 July 1900) saying that he is thinking of him and will be leaving for Paris on the 25th and that Wakil al-Dowleh will accompany him.
