The signature reads: raqam-e mirza khodadad-e hakim 1277 (Drawn by the most humble, Mirza Khodadad Hakim (the physician) 1277/(1860-61)"

The painter Khodadad Khan Zand, known as Mirza Hakim, was a portrait painter of the Nasir al-Din Shah period. Karimzadeh says that his attribute of Zand and Hakim means that he comes from a family of physicians from the Zand tribe. His three recorded works are dated 1273/1855-6 and 1277/1860-61, one being the above piece. (M. A. Karimzadeh-Tabrizi, The Lives & Art of Old Painters of Iran, vol. I, London, 1985, p. 166).
