Rectangular, the cover, base and sides engraved with foliate strapwork, the cover and thumbpiece with applied rose, thistle and shamrock border, the cover centering a garter motto SHOULD AULD ACQUAINTANCE BE FORGOT surrounding a thistle, the base with presentation inscription, marked inside base and cover
3 5/8 in. (9.2 cm.) long; 8 oz. (261 gr.)
The inscription reads: Presented to Captain John Thompson OF THE SHIP OMAR PASHA BY THE SUBSCRIBED FELLOW PASSENGERS AT THE COMPLETION OF A VOYAGE FROM SYDNEY TO LONDON SEPTR 10TH 1858, AS A SMALL MEMENTO OF THEIR ESTEEM AND JUST APPRECIATION OF HIS WORTH J.
