An unusual display model of an early horizontal stationary engine of circa 1780,
built by N.C. King, the boiler with vertical cylinder mounted integrally with plug valves, overmounted crosshead, wooden connecting rods, square section crankshaft, spoked flywheel and geared drive cog. The return flue boiler is fitted with weight and lever safety valve, filler plug, level test cocks, fire door and chimney, finished in grey black and red oxide and mounted on a wooden plinth -- 37 x 34.3cm.
