This chair is named after the design produced by Rietveld for the Dutch Pavillion at the Juryfrei Kunstschau exhibition in Berlin in 1923. It was the architect's first assymetric design, and both left hand and right hand versions are known. The paper label to this example would propose a 1950s date of manufacture, which would appear to be consistent with a 1957-dated drawing of the design (recorded Vöge, p.60).
