Lot Essay

Three other kilims with very comparable designs have been published (Yanni Petsopoulos and Belkis Balpinar: 100 Kilims, exhibition catalogue, London, 1991, no.63; J.Mellaart, U. Hirsch and B. Balpinar: The Goddess from Anatolia, Milan, 1989, vol.I, p.81, fig.3; B. Frauenknecht: Early Turkish Tapestries, Nürnberg, 1984, pl.39. While the third of these was woven in two panels, the present example is also more similar to the first two in its minimal use of blue tones.
