Sugata [configuration]: honzukuri, broad mihaba, iori-mune, chu-kissaki

Kitae [forging pattern]: o-itame with jinie

Hamon [tempering pattern]: narrow notare, gunome of nie

Boshi [tip]: continuation of hamon, notarekomi, ko-maru

Horimono [carvings]: bohi on both sides

Nakago [tang]: o-suriage, katte-sagari, kiri end, two holes

Habaki [collar]: single, copper-gilt

In shirasaya [plain wood scabbard]: with attribution to Kaneshige

Nagasa [length from tip to beginning of tang]: 71.4cm.

Sori [curvature]: 1.8cm.

Motohaba [width at start of tempered edge]: 3.1cm.

Sakihaba [width before tip]: 2.4cm.

Attributed on the registration document and on the sayagaki to Kaneshige (Kinju). The smith is said to have been one of the pupils of Masamune. He is believed to have been a priest of the Kiyosenji temple in Echizen. He went to Mino around 1330-40 to establish the Seki School there. The o-itame nagare grain and hamon of notare with gunome in this blade are characteristic of his work.
