Lot Essay

In old documents a Kaneuji is recorded as having been one ten pupils of Masamune of Soshu. Originally of the Yamato Tegai school, he migrated to Shizu in Mino Province and changed the first character of his name for a different character, which is pronounced the same. In this period he is known as Shizu Saburo. There was at least one contemporary known as Yamato Shizu, although the relationship is not clear. The characteristics of this sword are similar to early Mino work.
