Lot Essay
This sword is a typical and fine example of the work of the Ichimonji School. The signature is slightly worn due to the re-shaping of the tang during the machi-okuri process. Although the signature differs slightly from the well-known example in Nipponto Jiten by Fujishiro 1, which is also that illustrated in Yumei Koto Taikan by Iimura2 as a possession of the house of Prince Takamatsu, the blade characteristics are very similar.
