Signed Nagamitsu, Late Muromachi Period (16th Century)
Blade honzukuri, iori-mune, ko-kissaki, sakizori, forging pattern ko-itame, with jinie, tempered edge gunome of nioi with togari-ba, yo and utsuri, boshi ko-maru with hakikake, tang ubu, two holes, double gilt copper habaki, in shirasaya with inscription of Heianjo Nagamitsu/Bizen Osafune Nagamitsu, teisei [amended], nagasa 72.3cm., sori 1.8cm., motohaba 2.9cm., sakihaba 1.7cm.

Lot Essay

The registration document lists this blade as by Heianjo Nagamitsu, who worked in Yamashiro during the early Muromachi Period. A sayagaki attributing the sword to Bizen Osafune Nagamitsu has been added to by Kunzan with 'correction' and 'Heianjo Nagamitsu'.
