Unsigned, Edo Period (17th Century)
Blade hirazukuri, chu-kissaki, iori-mune, forging pattern itame mixed with small hada, pronounced larger hada above hamachi, tempered edge broad gunome midare of nie, ko-maru kotetsu style boshi, bohi kakinagashi, tang with two holes (one plugged), double gilt copper habaki, nagasa 66.6cm., sori 1.7cm., motohaba 3.3cm., sakihaba 2.5cm., in shirasaya

Lot Essay

There appears to have been an inscription removed from the omote of the tang of this early shinto. The long yakidashi and vigorous hamon indicate Edo work. The tekogane grain near the base of the blade and the boshi resembling the profile of a human thumb, are features found on the work of Kotetsu.
