A mid-20th Century two-day marine "Coronation" chronometer by Thomas Mercer No.20124, circa 1953
The 4in. silvered dial signed and numbered Thomas Mercer 20124, Roman hour numeral, subsidiary seconds and up-and-down dials, blued steel hands, matt gilt frames, Earnshaw escapement, cut bi-metallic balance with cylindrical heat compensation weights, palladium helical balance spring, Mercer flat strip-steel detent with jewelled locking pallet, brass bowl, gimballed in mahogany plain two-tier box with glazed top -- 7in. (18cm.) square approximately; together with two books: Gould, R.T. The Marine Chronometer, Its History and Developments Antique Collectors Club, 1989; and Bertele, H. Marine & Pocket Chronometers History and Development, Schiffer, 1991
