Lot Essay

The present work was executed in the fishing village of Staithes in Yorkshire. Here Laura Knight concentrated on depicting children in her art, such as a 1906 watercolour, The Knitting Lesson (Harris Museum and Art Gallery, Preston) and The Elder Sister, 1907 (Rochdale Art Gallery).
