Provenance

Possibly given by the artist to Cardale Luck and Cicely Jesse on the occasion of their wedding in 1910.

Lot Essay

The present work was executed in the fishing village of Staithes in Yorkshire. Here Laura Knight concentrated on depicting children in her art, such as a 1906 watercolour, The Knitting Lesson (Harris Museum and Art Gallery, Preston) and The Elder Sister, 1907 (Rochdale Art Gallery).
