Lot Essay

The post-Restoration house featured in this picture has not been identified. John Harris (op.cit.) commented that 'as the buildings are all stone and the picture is said to have come from Cold Ashton in Gloucestershire, the locality may be Bath or Bristol. Topographically it would fit the former and the towered church would therefore be Bath Abbey'.
