Château Montrose--Vintage 2001
Saint-Estèphe, 2me cru classé. Château-bottled
Tasting note: Château Montrose 2001 was richly purple in colour when tasted from barrel, the nose being fragrant with minerals and oak-spiciness. The palate showed structure, muscle and firm tannins, with middle palate then - at 6 months - not yet fully fleshed-out. Further barrel-ageing and a year in bottle have transformed this wine, I understand, so I look forward to re-tasting it at our Masterclass on 8 November. The classic Château Montrose label has been simplified and modernised for the 2001 vintage. A.H.
