Details
CHATEAU MAGDELAINE
Acquired by Jean-Pierre Moueix from a Saint-Emilion lawyer in 1954, this is one of the district's most ancient sites, with so-called "Roman trenches" still visible on the property. The vines being situated on both Saint-Emilion's main, clay slope and its limestone plateau, the wine - in a great year - shows perfect balance between stuffing, fragrance and supple tannins. Merlot constitutes nearly 90 of the plantings (one of the highest proportions amongst the Saint-Emilion First Growths), Cabernet Franc the balance. The steepest slopes are still cultivated by horse.
To be lying in Twickenham, Middlesex, approximately 3 weeks after the sale
Offered duty-paid but available in bond
Offered in original wooden cases
Château Magdelaine--Vintage 1989
Saint-Emilion, 1er grand cru classé. Château-bottled
The 1989 is one of the beauties of the vintage, now fully mature, smooth and silky. A.H.
