A SWISS ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX SET WITH AN ENAMEL MINIATURE
Geneva, circa 1780, with 'prestige marks'
Oval box, the coin-pattern engine-turned panels on cover, sides and base coated with translucent orange enamel and bordered by opaque white enamel bands, the lid inset with an oval enamel miniature of a gentleman in blue-bordered purple coat, black stock with white lace cravat, grey-powdered curly wig, within a gold mount decorated with raised beads, the borders chased in two-colour gold with trailing foliage interspersed by pellets, the four side pilasters similarly chased with husks, the reeded rims of the lid with translucent orange enamelled champlevé foliage
