A SAXON GOLD CAGEWORK AND HARDSTONE SNUFF-BOX SET WITH AN ENAMEL INSIDE
Dresden, circa 1750, the enamel miniature French or Geneva, circa 1780
Circular semi-translucent amethystine-quartz snuff-box with slight baluster sides, the hinged slightly raised lid overlaid with a gold cagework chased, embossed and pierced with rococo scrolls, floral swags, trelliswork and rippling frills, matching raised thumbpiece, bright-cut raised rims, the upper base mounts similarly decorated with reeded scrolls and flowers, plain lower base rim, wavy flange, the inside of the lid later inset with an oval enamel plaque depicting lovers in action surprised by a lady and a child, in a narrow gold mount on a matted gold tondo applied with scrolls, flowers and rocaille
