THREE FRENCH CARNETS-DE-BAL
one by Adrien-Louis Cassé (fl. 1763-1781), marked, Paris, 1771/1772, with the charge and discharge marks of Julien Alaterre 1768-1774, the miniature later; one by François Delanoy (fl. 1768-1787), marked, Paris, 1772/1773, with the charge and discharge marks of Julien Alaterre 1768-1774, later struck with two Parisian post-1838 restricted warranty marks for gold; one late 19th century with miniatures in the manner of Louis Moreau bearing signature 'VB. 1784'
Three slightly tapering rectangular ivory étuis-à-tablettes of flattened oblong section, one of strawberry-coloured lacquer, gold-mounted, set with a glazed miniature of a lady in Rococo dress on front and an oval flower églomisé on the reverse; one of red lacquer, with two gold on black Japan-lacquer panels; one, gilt-metal mounted, inset on both sides of the base with gouache miniatures of scènes champêtres; all three with tablets inside and all but the latter with gold-capped pencils
